IntroductionAs part of the Commercial Software Development Degree every student has to undertake a project. The purpose of this project is to encourage students to come up with original designs for software and implement these designs. The project is also designed to encourage students to develop the habit of working in teams and planning their work. A team may choose their own project which can be in any area of computing, for a list of projects check out emhain.wit.ie.
What is the Project?Simply put the BlindPenguin project is a piece of software that magnifies the screen for anyone using X Windows, for more information check out the reports and project plans.
Reasons for Choosing this ProjectThere were a number of reasons why we chose our project. The most important one was that nothing remotely like it had ever been done as a fourth year project before. The philosophy of most Linux developers is to provide their source code free of charge, which made it easier to learn how exactly we would go about developing a screen magnification package. Another reason was that there was nothing written for X Windows, which was even remotely user friendly or useable.Warning & RestrictionsBoth xzoom and BlindPenguin are distributed as is with absolutely no warranty.
